Bumper Stickers

“Honk if you love Jesus!” says a bumper sticker. “Like” if you love Jesus” says a face book post. Not only are they silly, but such public displays are cosmetic at best, meaning little and availing nothing in the grand scheme of things. He, whose attention we seek with such displays, requires quite a bit more than mere words. He taught, “If ye love me, keep my commandments…he that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me:(John 14:15, 21, 23) He added, ” Blessed is that servant, whom his Lord when he cometh shall find so doing” (Matthew 24:46) We repent then, and apply ourselves to a higher task:
“Savior, may I learn to love thee,
Walk the path that thou hast shown. …
Savior, may I learn to love thee—
Lord, I would follow thee.”
Not some false piety and meaningless public displays, but our very lives will reflect our affection for Him who gave His all for each of us, conditioned on repentance and our willingness to follow Him to the end.
