Desite the tumult and ugliness we hear about in the news, is not a clear conscience a blessing? Is it not wonderful to have peace of mind? A troubled conscience, on the other hand, comes from unresolved issues in our lives, issues which require repentance. There are addictions, and for those who would be free of them, such addictions are most cruel. Struggle though he might, resolve as he will, he falls, he succumbs, again and again. Is there no balm in Gilead? Yes! There is a way! If we would be clean, we must turn to a Higher Source, How we seek Him, makes all the difference. When the life we are living has knocked us to our knees, here is a beginning. This position is best suited for the fervent and heart rending plea, “O Jesus, Thou Son of God, have mercy on me!” Then, and only then, will help begin to come.
“Jesus, lover of my soul,
Let me to thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll,
While the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Savior, hide,
Till the storm of life is past.
Safe into the haven guide;
Oh, receive my soul at last.
Other refuge have I none;
Hangs my helpless soul on thee.
Leave, oh, leave me not alone;
Still support and comfort me.
All my trust on thee is stayed;
All my help from thee I bring.
Cover my defenseless head
With the shadow of thy wing.”
